NIC implemented two-factor authentication. To accessing the e-way bill and e-invoice systems,
NIC is deploying 2-Factor Authentication for logging in to the e-Way Bill/e-Invoice System to improve the security of the system. OTP will be used to authenticate login in addition to username and password. The OTP can be obtained in three distinct ways. You can use any of the OTPs to log in to the system. The following are the many modes of generating OTP:
1. SMS: Your OTP will be sent to your registered cellphone number as a text message.
2. Use the 'Sandes' app: Sandes is a government-provided messaging programme that allows you to send and receive messages. You can get the OTP by downloading and installing the Sandes app on your registered cell number.
3. Using the NIC-GST-Shield app:
- The NIC-GST-Shield app is a mobile app offered by the eWay Bill / e-Invoice System that may be used to create an OTP.
- Only the e-Waybill / e-Invoice portal's URL 'Main Menu 2-Factor Authentication Install NIC-GST-Shield' can be used to download this programme. This software can be downloaded, installed, and registered on your registered cellphone number.
- You should make sure that the time on the app matches the time on the e-Way bill / e-Invoice system. The OTP is presented when you first launch the app. You can now proceed with the authentication by entering this OTP.
- After every 30 seconds, the OTP is refreshed. This app does not require the use of the internet or the use of a mobile network to generate the OTP.
Registration for Two-Factor Authentication one-Waybill / e-Invoice
- Go to Main Menu 2 Factor Authentication and validate the registration after logging into the e-Way bill System.
- After confirmation, the system prompts you for an OTP as well as your login and password. Individual user accounts are used for OTP authentication.
- GSTIN sub-users would be authenticated separately based on their registered mobile number in the e-Way Bill/ e-Invoice System.
- Once you've signed up for two-factor authentication, you can use it on both the e-Way bill and the e-Invoice system.
- Using the link '2 Factor Authentication Registration / Deregistration,' you can de-register this facility at any time. This feature is now available on an opt-in basis, but it will be made necessary in the future.
