According to The Hindu Newspaper, The Central Board of Direct Taxes stated in the RTI response that PAN becomes inoperative if the linking of PAN and Aadhaar is not completed by a specified deadline. A fee is also due to everyone who hasn't linked their PAN with Aadhaar, according to Section 234H of the IT Act. The Central Board of Direct Taxes has revealed that a total of 11.5 Cr Permanent account number cards were deactivated for failing to be linked with Aadhaar cards by the June 30 deadline as per income tax regulation. India has 70.24 Cr Permanent account No card holders, of which 57.25 crore have successfully linked their Permanent account number cards with Aadhaar. More than 12 Cr Permanent account number cards remain unlinked, with 11.5 Cr facing deactivation due to non-compliance of income tax regulation.
