Digital Signature Certificate

Digital Signature Certificate is a technique of verifying and validating the authenticity of a digital document or a message. It can provide the assurances of evidence of origin, transaction and can acknowledge informed consent by the signature.

Compliance with statutory requirements

Businesses and individuals needed to audit their books of accounts must compulsively file their income tax reports using a digital signature. In addition, the MCA has made it mandatory for companies to file all records, applications, and forms using digital signatures only.

A business can also be registered under the Goods and Services Tax only by reviewing the Goods and Services Tax application by means of a digital signature. The use of a DSC is also compulsory for the submission of all kinds of applications, amendments, and other relevant forms.

Kind of DSC 

The type of applicant and the intention for which the Digital Signature Certificate is acquired shall determine the type of DSC to which the applicant must apply, depending on the need. There are three forms of digital signature certificates are issued by the certification body.

Class 1 Certificates: are given to individual / private subscribers and are used to confirm that the name of the customer and the contact details of the specifically identified subject are in the records of the certification body.

Class 2 Certificates: are given to the director/signatory authorities of the companies with the aim of electronic filing with the Registrar of Companies ( ROC). Class 2 certificates are compulsory for individuals who need to sign manual documents when filing the return with the ROC.

Class 3 Certificates: These certificates should be used for online participation/bidding in e-auctions and digital tenders anywhere in India. Vendors wishing to compete in electronic tenders must have a digital signature of Class 3.

What is the process for apply for DSC?

Required Documents for Class II & III Individual DSC 

The specifications for the DSC Application are as follows.

1.Submission of the Digital Signature Certificate Registration form properly completed by the client

2. Containing evidence of photo ID and pan card Pan (JPG, PNG OR PDF FORMAT ONLY.) and Aadhaar (Address Proof) (JPG, PNG OR PDF FORMAT ONLY.), Photo (JPG OR PNG FORMAT ONLY), 

3.Producing proof of address,  (JPG OR PNG FORMAT ONLY),  

4. Email ID & Phone No.

Main Points to be remembered for applying for DSC?

  •          Digital signatures shall be given for 1 or 2 years. They need to be renewed after their validity has expired.
  •          An individual may have different Digital Signature Certificates  – one for business purposes and the other for a personal purpose.
  •          Digitally signed records are relevant to the courts as proof or evidence
