its Procedures<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Requirement_of_GST_Audit_and_meaning\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>Requirement of <a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/carajput.com\/publications\/special-audit-under-the-gst.pdf\">GST Audit<\/a> and meaning<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The audit in accordance with GST includes an examination by a registered individual of the GST of records, returns and other documents.<\/li>\n<li>It also ensures that declared turnover is correct, taxes paid, reimbursed, and input tax credit used and other such compliances are evaluated by a qualified expert pursuant to the GST Act.<\/li>\n<li>GST is a taxation trust system in which a taxpayer must self-evaluate his\/her tax liability, pay taxes and file returns. So a robust audit mechanism is necessary to ensure that the taxpayer properly assessed his tax liability.<\/li>\n<li>The government has taken several measures to <em>correctly implement GST, one of which is an audit.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"On_1st_Feb_2021_Union_Budget_2021\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>On 1st Feb 2021, Union Budget 2021: <\/strong><\/em><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>GST audit requirement has been removed from the GST law by professionals such as Chartered Accountants and CMAs. This was amended in Sections 35 and 44 of CGST Act.<\/li>\n<li>According to the amendment, taxpayers only have to submit GSTR-9 annual self-certified returns to the GST portal, completely abolishing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caindelhiindia.com\/blog\/is-self-certification-in-gstr-9c-really-a-positive-thing\/\">GSTR-9C reconciliation statement requirement<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Moreover, the Govt still has to clarify the fiscal year and the date on which this removal is applicable. Note that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caindelhiindia.com\/blog\/is-self-certification-in-gstr-9c-really-a-positive-thing\/\">GSTR-9C<\/a> is still subject to change for Financial Year 2019-20.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Key_Objective_GST_Audit\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>Key Objective GST Audit:<\/strong><\/em><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>A GST audit&#8217;s main goal is to establish a reconciliation between the information declared in GSTR 9 &#8211; Annual return and the audited financial statements.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To Taxpayer the compliance of Registered Taxpayers (RTP) with the provisions of the GST Act &amp; GST rules made thereunder.<\/li>\n<li>To make ensure &amp; promote the correctness of\n<ul>\n<li>input tax credit availed,<\/li>\n<li>turnover declared,<\/li>\n<li>refund claimed and<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">taxes paid,<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This can be a difficult task, and even if such information is found, its accuracy must be validated using audited financial statements.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Who_are_all_subject_to_the_Goods_and_Service_Tax_audit\"><\/span><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Who are all subject to the Goods and Service Tax audit?<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>GST Audit applies to any registered taxable person whose annual aggregate turnover (Value of all taxable supplies whether it is inter-state or intra-state + exempt supplies + supplies made outside India) exceeds INR 2 Cr during a Financial Year.<\/li>\n<li>The GST taxpayer may be able to get his account and any other documents audited by a chartered accountant (CA) or by a Cost and Work Accountant (CWA).<\/li>\n<li>Each state shall be audited separately under GST.
