Step-by-step Guide to Check Income Tax Refund Status

Are you eligible for a refund of your taxes?

  • You are eligible for an income tax refund if you paid more tax than your actual tax liability in a given fiscal year. You’ll need to request a refund through the ITR for that year.
  • You’ll receive your income tax refund whenever the IRS processes your ITR and confirms it via an intimation notice.
  • This section 143(1) intimation notice is being issued to you in accordance with section 143 (1) of the Income Tax Act.
  • The deadline to file taxes for FY2020-21 has been extended until December 31, 2021.
  • An income tax refund is processed by SBI, and the amount is directly credited to the bank account that the taxpayer designated when filing his or her return.
  • It’s critical to check that you’ve used the correct bank account number and IFS code.
  • The taxpayer’s bank account must be pre-validated on the government’s new income tax e-filing portal, and the taxpayer’s PAN card must be linked to the bank account.

How can I keep track of the status of my tax refund?

Your income tax refund can be tracked in 2 ways: first, through the new income tax portal, and second, through the NSDL website.

Steps for income tax portal:

Step-1: Now Open the income tax portal i.e www.incometax.gov.in on any google internet browser. Login to Assesses income tax account by entering the income tax user ID i.e PAN, & your password.

Step-2: Login & click on income tax portal ‘e- file’ option.

Step-3: then we have to Select ‘Income tax returns’ followed by ‘View Filed returns’.

Step-4: thereafter we can check the latest Income tax return filed.

Now Select the ‘View Details’ option & it will show the status of the Income-tax return you have filed.

Steps for the TIN NSDL website:

Step-1: Now Open any internet browser & enter the below link  https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refundstatuslogin.html

Step-2:Thereafter Enter your PAN no details.

Step-3: Now select the year for which we are willing to check refund status.

Step-4: then Enter the captcha code & click on submit. When you submit the status of our income tax refund will flash.

If your Income Tax Refund is not credited, you can raise a request by selecting ‘income tax Refund Reissue’ under ‘Services.’

Income tax refunds will be credited only to bank accounts that are linked to PAN from March 1, 2019. If your PAN is not yet linked with your bank account, you must provide the details of the same to your bank branch to get an income tax refund.
